During UNFOLD Art XChang, Pierre Gervois, Founder of Gervois Hotel Rating, a media entrepreneur and luxury hotel expert, born in Paris but currently residing in New York, spoke on re-assesssing the standards of hotel rating systems beyond amenities and luxury to create emotions and mood through art to attract and retain the sophisticated affluent travelers. Katherine Gass Stowe, Founder and Chief Curator for James Contemporary Art Projects in New York, a highly seasoned curator and advisor who has put together dozens of private and public collections, installations, and related programming for clients worldwide spoke on her journey as the Global Art Curator for Jumeirah Group from 2007 - 2012, where she expanded a multi-platform art program she created for Jumeirah Essex House and branded it Culturally Connected, where this new program became a blueprint to be implemented by Jumeirah properties across three continents to engage and actively support their local art communities. She also spoke on her most recent project where she developed a collection for the award-winning The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel, in New York City and talks about her current launch, Cause Curating™ an innovative curatorial program designed to align corporate missions and identity through art. Steve Wilson, Co-Founder 21c Museum Hotels, the creative force behind the brand that is now part of Accor Hotels, spoke on how together with his wife, Laura Lee Brown, he converted vacant buildings into an interactive museum, boutique hotel and restaurant where today, 21c Museum Hotels has expanded into seven cities, a multi-venue museum with more than 70,500 square feet of exhibition space that exhibits the couple’s personal collection of more than 3,000 works. Pauline Kanako Kamiyama, Deputy Director of Civic Art for Los Angeles County Arts Commission talks about their civic art program, which began in 2005, and has grown to be one of the largest public art programs in the country, with over 40 active projects, ranging in size from USD$10,000 to USD$1 million. Sam Rauch, a New York-based contemporary art professional with extensive experience realizing ambitious exhibitions in both the public and institutional realms, currently serving as the Director of Special Projects at Public Art Fund speaks on the mission of Public Art Fund, an organization founded in 1977 to bring dynamic contemporary art to a broad audience in New York City and beyond by mounting ambitious free exhibitions of international scope and impact that offer the public powerful experiences with art and the urban environment. Sam also speaks on the development and implementation of dozens of New York City’s most significant public art projects that he has managed, including major commissions by Antony Gormley, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Jessica Stockholder, Jeppe Hein, Monika Sosnowska, Thomas Schutte, Danh Vo, Katharina Grosse, Ugo Rondinone, and most recently; Good Fences Make Good Neighbors, an unprecedented 300+ site citywide exhibition by celebrated Chinese artist and human rights activist Ai Weiwei and the 23-foot-tall work, titled Wind Sculpture (SG) I, by the British-Nigerian artist, Yinka Shonibare on the southeast corner of Central Park.
